Abstract
ConTutto is an IBM Research configurable platform for innovation in the memory subsystem of an OpenPOWER node. By replacing the ASIC memory buffer chip of a commercial OpenPOWER server with a high-end FPGA connected to the processor’s memory link, we demonstrate the highest bandwidth attach point of an FPGA with a commercial server processor. Furthermore, we enable system-level innovations at multiple levels, including 1) Systems Research with new memory technologies, such as MRAM and NVDIMMs, and 2) Near-memory acceleration of data flowing between processor and memory. In this talk, we will present details of the ConTutto platform, and show various system-level demos using ConTutto in an OpenPOWER system. This work is partially funded through the Department of Energy FastForward-2 Government contract.
